Jap (or Kent) pumpkins have ribbed, grey-green mottled skin and a nutty, deep yellow flesh. They're great for roasting, mashing or steaming.
Pumpkins contain dietary fibre, potassium, and vitamins C and E and are an excellent source of beta carotene.
Pumpkin -Jap / Kent
Pumpkins grow as a vine that rambles as ground-cover plants. They can be encouraged to grow over structures provided the fruit has ample supprt.
Pumpkins need fertile, compost-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Water in the morning when possible and avoid wetting the leaves to prevent mildew.
The fruit is ready when the vine has died back and the stem on the fruit has dried. Always remove the fruit with as much of the stalk as possible. Store pumpkins with unbroken skin in a cool, dry place.
