Mentha pulegium

Pennyroyal is a member of the mint family and is a small, groundcover perennial with glossy green leaves. It reaches a height of only 15cm and has tiny mauve flowers in Spring. It is a spreading plant like other mints and so is best contained in pots. It looks very pretty in hanging baskets. It likes full sun to part shade.

Pennyroyal is used as an insect repellent. Keep a few sprigs on benches to deter ants and grow in the garden to keep ants at bay. Rub leaves on animals and put sprigs in pet bedding to keep fleas away. Crush leaves and rub on skin to deter mozzies and midges,

Pennyroyal can be made into a tea for nausea be must be used in small doses and with extreme caution internally - especially preganant women.
